Joining the PAD studio team: Jonathon Burlow

I am currently studying my masters degree at the University of Bath, and have been working with PAD for the past three months as part of the Universities academic programme at Part 2. I previously studied my Part 1 at the University of Portsmouth, graduating with a 1st class BA (Hons) and taking home the Dibben Prize.

Life started in Bangkok where I was Born, and I have been fortunate enough to grow up living in culture rich countries such as Loas, Pakistan and France during the first 10 years of my life due to my fathers job as a Hydro Electrical Engineer Director.

Previous to ‘PAD' I have been living and working in London for 'Granit Architects’ followed by 'Andrew Phillips' (a previous Director at David Chipperfield’s) working on projects at a verity of scales, from a residentail masterplan in Luxembourg to an apartment in Dubai for the fashion brand Fendi. Rather than identifying with any particular style or aesthetic, my design approach is best characterised by working methodology. With my aim to continuously question a brief in the aspiration to create a piece of architecture that is inventive and elegant in use and form.

My time at PAD Studio has been very educational and progressive, from the initial stages to founding a film and photography company The Directors Wendy and Darren have been mentoring me with a wealth of design and industry knowledge. PAD are to be heading in a positive direction with an influencing effect on the industry, and I am proud to be a part of it.

Below is some examples of projects I have been involved in such as how innovative design can be used in the conversion of an agricultural barn into flexible office space and how a traditional residential property can inform and translate into a simplistic concept that separates function. I have also produced the above video on the Open Office in December which has been greatly recieved.
