Located in a tranquil rural setting, this new office is designed to offer the clients a private and professional working space in which to conduct their demanding business when away from the city, remaining in close proximity to their family home. Designed as an extremely low energy building, the office replaces a poorly constructed dwelling which existed previously on the site and was not sustainable for use as a working space. Owing to a particular set of planning requirements the new design sits on approximately the same footprint and dimensions of the previous building, however through contemporary detailing and carefully considered materiality, pays homage to the local vernacular and unique coastal setting. Internally, the ground floor is open plan and includes a reception area, kitchen, WC, meeting space and a separate editing suite and boardroom that can seat up to 8 people with full AV provision. On the first floor there are two private offices, linked with a playful 'talking hatch' positioned at desk height, allowing the office occupants to communicate between their respective workspaces if they desire, whilst still retaining the ability to ensure confidentiality when needed.
