Surfers Against Sewage Plastic Free Lymington campaign was launched earlier this year, as part of the larger national campaign by the charity to reduce the avoidable use of simple use plastic and to encourage & recognise alternative sustainable choices.
It was an easy campaign for us to support, for us sustainability is a mindset fundamental to our design approach and company ethos. We are always striving to design buildings which are sustainable throughout their life cycle, that are created to respect nature and their setting.
As a business we have made small changes in how we work to be kinder to our environment, such as setting the printer to double sided as standard, reading magazines online, insisting that our brochures were printed on 100% recycled paper and buying ‘Who Gives a Crap’ recycled toilet paper. However we were very aware that we needed an extra push to kick our addiction to single-use plastic.
The campaign has helped us review what we are using, highlighting the alternatives which are readily available, reminding ourselves of the big and little differences we can make day to day. Some quick wins have been to all get re-usable coffee cups, get a soda stream in the office and to get milk delivered in glass bottles. We know there are more changes we can make, but it is a step in the right direction.
